NOW HIRING: CAREER SPECIALIST

Status: Full Time

Compensation: $20.50 per hour

Hours: (36-40 hours/week)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Career Specialist is a member of the Workforce Development Department who will strengthen our program by providing consistent contact and support for our neighbors who are seeking employment on their journey towards self-sufficiency and empowerment in the United States. The Career Specialist will meet one on one with neighbors to provide ongoing job support through resume building, application assistance, interview practice, financial education, onboarding paperwork and beyond. The Riverview International Center began offering 8 hours per week of volunteer job help services at it’s start in 2015 that came to be known as Workforce Development which now in 2025, provides over 50 job help appointments weekly.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required. Previous work experience is valued as highly as educational background.

  • Digital literacy (data entry, detailed search, online applications, spreadsheet entries, Word or Google doc proficiency, typing speed at least 35 wpm)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a criminal background check

  • Must have valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance to occasionally transport neighbors

  • Must have worked in the United States for a minimum of 18 months

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Provide comprehensive case management to clients that encourages, motivates, and addresses barriers to employment opportunities, while also making linkages with community resources for various needs.

  • Use active listening skills and intentional questioning to help neighbors establish career goals 

  • Maintain weekly contact with job seeker until goal is obtained

  • Create resumes and practice mock interviews

  • Develop and nurture relationships with existing and potential employers

  • Create and facilitate job readiness classes and digital literacy classes to increase skills and employability

  • Maintain client records and employment data in computer database

  • Provide transportation to interviews as needed

  • Maintain follow-up support with employers and employees

  • Assist with workforce grant reporting 

  • Other job duties as assigned
